Friends of Last Chance Canyon Events
The events we plan to arrange are at the moment still being decided upon, we've a lot to do and a lot of ideas to make things happen! Our efforts are focused on maintaining historic sites like Bickel Camp and restoring Burro Schmidt's tunnel and cabin. These two areas still have a lot of trash that has accumulated over the years. With proper direction we plan on having a clean up day to identify and remove what is obvious trash from the area. We also plan on having impromptu dinners as we have as familes and friends in the past in these areas, available now for all our members to share in too. One large pot luck sounds great! Please bare with us as we learn and grow, and with your help become more organized in this endeavor of enjoying our public lands while helping to keep our history intact.
We also plan on helping to share the history of gold mining in the area, and to have a claim or two of our own for members to "get dirty" on and learn the ins and outs of small scale prospecting as done by those a hundred years ago. We also can have modern-day nugget shoots using metal detectors and dry washers, as wellas learning the ropes of panning for gold too. These fun activities we'll do with a minimum impact on the land, and learning of the fauna and flora of the fagile area too. We should all be able to enjoy the land with minimum impact.
