Hands-On Adventures, Car and Hiking Tour Information
Petroglyphs, Indian house rings, grinding stones and such are also available to be viewed in the close vicinity of Ridgecrest. Close by we've places like the El Paso Mountains, Sheep Springs, Black Mountain, Fossil Falls, and Ayers Rock with its nice pictographs. Each of these sites though only has a few petroglyphs and pictographs, compared to the abundance located at Little Petroglyph Canyon. The mining history within the valley is also rich and well documented, dating back to the California Gold Rush when Manly and Rogers hiked through our area to save the 1849 prospectors at Furnace Creek, Death Valley. The first water supply they encountered on the historic trek was at Indian Wells, where today the spring supplies a great micro brewery. We can take car tours to early stage sites within the area as well as to early Native American sites that have great views of the land around us. For instance, we've led car tours into Last Chance Canyon of the El Paso's, and taken in places like the Cudahy Dutch Cleanser talc mine and camp, Burro Schmidt's Tunnel, Bickel Camp and mining areas close by. These tours are of a flexible duration depending on the needs and desires of the tour participants. At least a half day is recommended to travel slowly and take in and walk around the areas we'll visit.
There also are plans to host "Hands-On Adventures" like gold panning, metal detecting and dry washing. Gold placer fields exist in several areas nearby. We've mining claims available to use too! Please let us know of your interest by filling out the form via the link below.
These tours are usually done by request and details on content, dates, and pricing will be posted here shortly. Please contact our Tour Coordinator if you've a keen interest that can't wait! PS: we also do climbs of Black Mountain - a Sacred Site for early Native Americans. These climbing tours are best done in the early spring or late fall.
